Trump Supporter Fights Back Against Discrimination Over MAGA Hat, Sues MLB Team

It seems like the New York Mets and Citi Field have found themselves in some deep water, and not because of their lackluster pitching rotation. Aura Moody, a 64-year-old Trump supporter from Queens, is suing the Mets for $2 million after she claims she was told to ditch her “Make America Great Again” hat before being allowed into a game. She was told her MAGA hat was “too political” for a baseball game.

Now, Moody isn’t just any average fan—she’s a social worker, a mother of two, and a member of the Queens Village Republican Club. She’s also got the guts to take on the Mets in court without a lawyer, representing herself. And what’s her crime here? Daring to express her political views in a country that supposedly champions free speech. Yet, somehow, her MAGA hat is considered too controversial to make it past the Citi Field gates. Let that sink in.

This all went down on August 14, when Moody and her friend, both sporting MAGA hats, tried to attend a Mets game against the Oakland Athletics. After breezing through security, they were stopped by a staffer who told them they couldn’t come in unless they ditched the hats. Moody, rightly so, pointed out her First Amendment rights—something she probably shouldn’t have to explain in the United States of America, of all places. But the staff wasn’t having it. She was told to take off the hat or get out.

Moody, trying to keep things civil (because she’s clearly the adult in the room), even asked if she could just stash her hat in her bag. Nope. They wouldn’t allow that either. The only solution? The hat had to be gone from the stadium entirely. Let’s call it what it is—this wasn’t about dress code or “political neutrality.” It was about silencing a Black woman who dares to wear a MAGA hat. Moody wasn’t just targeted for her hat; she believes she was racially and politically targeted for who she is.

And here’s the kicker—the Mets apparently realized they messed up. Three days later, a representative called Moody and apologized, saying there’s no policy against MAGA hats and that staff had been “retrained.” Too little, too late, my friends. Moody’s suing for reputational harm, racial discrimination, and political retaliation—and she’s got a point.

The Mets have stayed silent so far, but they might want to prepare for more than just batting practice. This lawsuit isn’t going away.
