The gloves are off, and the billionaire brawl between President Trump and Elon Musk has officially gone nuclear.
What began as a disagreement over the Big Beautiful Act — Trump’s $1.6 trillion budget-slashing, tax-cutting juggernaut — has morphed into a public feud that’s now dragged in everything from government subsidies to Epstein conspiracy theories. Yes, really.
The tension hit a boiling point Thursday when President Trump responded to Musk’s harsh criticism of the bill, accusing the Tesla and SpaceX CEO of acting out because “we took the EV mandate” and, according to Trump, rescinded the NASA administrator nomination of Musk’s friend Jared Isaacman. “Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave,” Trump said on Truth Social. “I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted… and he just went CRAZY!”

Trump didn’t stop there. He then floated the idea of gutting Musk’s empire at the source: taxpayer dollars. “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”

Let’s pause right there. Trump has a point. Musk’s companies have raked in billions in government contracts — from SpaceX launches to electric vehicle tax credits — all while Musk postures as a renegade capitalist. If he’s going to wage war on Trump’s plan to rein in spending and end green energy mandates, why should he keep cashing federal checks?
But Musk, never one to take a hit without swinging back, fired off a Clint Eastwood-style taunt on X: “Go ahead, make my day.” And then came the real bombshell.
In a follow-up post, Musk accused Trump of being named in the still-unreleased Epstein files, claiming, “That is the real reason they have not been made public.”
Let’s be clear: Musk offered zero evidence. It’s a bold claim — and without proof, it reeks of desperation. Maybe it’s a distraction tactic, maybe it’s personal, or maybe it’s just Twitter theater. Either way, it marks a new low in this political slugfest.
Trump brushed it off with his signature style, saying he doesn’t mind Musk turning against him, but “he should have done so months ago.” He doubled down on the Big Beautiful Act, calling it “one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress,” touting tax cuts, spending reductions, and a path to greatness.
The MAGA base now finds itself watching a high-stakes fight between the America First president and a billionaire who used to be seen as an ally. One thing’s for sure — this isn’t over. Not by a long shot.
