Marco Rubio just delivered a masterclass in shutting down liberal nonsense. During a press conference on Wednesday, a reporter—clearly fishing for a “gotcha” moment—tried to suggest that the Trump administration was violating free speech by revoking the green card of a pro-Hamas agitator at Columbia University. Big mistake. Rubio wasn’t having it.
The reporter, in typical leftist fashion, framed his question like this: “President Trump appealed to a lot of Americans on free speech arguments and not suppressing speech, especially from the government. Your revocation of the green card to many is seen as one of the most anti-speech actions a Secretary can take with his powers. How do you respond?”
Well, Rubio responded all right. He obliterated the premise of the question, making it crystal clear that this was not a free speech issue—it was about protecting the country from those who openly support terrorist organizations.
He pointed out the obvious: when you apply for a visa to come to the United States, you are not entitled to it. It’s a privilege, not a right. If you tell immigration authorities that you’re a Hamas supporter who wants to turn U.S. universities into breeding grounds for anti-Semitic hate, you wouldn’t even get a visa in the first place. And if you do manage to get in and then start engaging in radical, destructive activism, the U.S. has every right to revoke your visa or green card and kick you out.

As Rubio put it, “No one has a right to a student visa. No one has a right to a green card, by the way.” Exactly. This isn’t about some poor, innocent student sharing a controversial opinion—this is about someone who actively participated in shutting down universities, intimidating Jewish students, and siding with Hamas, a group that kidnaps and murders innocent civilians.
But, of course, the left isn’t going to let a little thing like national security get in the way of their ideology. Right on cue, an Obama-appointed judge stepped in to block the deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, claiming that his actions were “constitutionally protected speech.” Because apparently, supporting a terrorist organization and helping to turn America’s top universities into hostile war zones now falls under the First Amendment.
This issue may very well end up at the Supreme Court, where hopefully sanity will prevail. Until then, we can count on President Trump, Marco Rubio, and the rest of the America First movement to keep fighting to protect this country from radical, anti-American activists who have no business being here in the first place.
