For the first time, Kamala Harris has shared her policy plans and promises if she’s elected president. But what could have been a strong moment for her campaign turned into a major embarrassment that even CNN anchors couldn’t help but mock.
It was discovered that much of Harris’s new “Issues” page on her website, titled “A New Way Forward,” seems to be copied directly from Joe Biden’s old campaign website. Making it worse, CNN’s Erin Burnett was shocked by how different Harris’s promises are today compared to what she said when running for president five years ago. Reporter Andrew Kaczynski pointed out that in 2019, Harris promised to support “federal funding for gender transition care among new migrants.” Now, that promise is nowhere to be found on her current website.
Burnett highlighted the contradictions between Harris’s past and present stances. “In 2019, [Harris] said she would cut funding to ICE,” Burnett said. She was also surprised by Harris’s previous position: “Taxpayer-funded transition surgery for detained migrants? She actually said she supported that?!” she asked Kaczynski in disbelief. The Trump campaign even chimed in on X, calling Harris’s record “so extreme, even Erin Burnett couldn’t believe it” and shared a clip of her surprised reaction.
Kaczynski added that in 2019, Harris had also promised to fund gender surgery for federal prisoners, cut immigration detention by 50%, and close all privately run detention centers. She even pledged to order ICE to stop working with local police on detaining migrants, which would make sanctuary city policies nationwide.
This is incredible…

In another part of the 2019 questionnaire, Harris agreed to decriminalize all controlled substances, not just marijuana, to treat drug abuse as a health issue. “What would this mean?” Kaczynski asked. “All drug possession, not just marijuana… fentanyl, crack, cocaine, things like that.”
Last week, Harris struggled to defend her changing positions during an interview with Tim Walz. When asked about her shifting views, she insisted her beliefs “haven’t changed” and blamed Trump and Republicans for misrepresenting her record. In a conversation with CNN’s Dana Bash, Harris said, “You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed… that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter… We did that with the Inflation Reduction Act,” explaining how the U.S. has set goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
