Kamala Harris Drops the Ball After Given Softball Question

Kamala Harris went on The View and had a golden opportunity to finally set herself apart from Biden. With just 28 days left until Election Day, Sunny Hostin asked Harris a pretty straightforward question: would she have done anything differently from Biden over the past four years? A question like that could have allowed Harris to show a little independence, maybe a little self-awareness, and even connect with voters who are desperate for some kind of change.

So, what did Harris do? She gave a classic, non-answer answer. She said, “There is not a thing that comes to mind,” and then immediately pivoted to a rehearsed line about the cost of insulin. Instead of addressing any of the actual issues that Americans are struggling with—like, I don’t know, inflation, gas prices, the border crisis, or even just the general sense that everything’s gone a bit off the rails—she sidestepped it all. She stuck to the administration’s greatest hits, mentioning her work on lowering insulin costs, which is great, but not exactly top of mind when it comes to people’s frustrations right now.

It’s like Harris and her campaign think they can just avoid all the tough questions. She’s making a huge media push this week, hitting up all the popular platforms. She was on 60 Minutes, where she dodged questions about the border crisis. She’s got appearances lined up with Howard Stern and Stephen Colbert, and she even went on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast. She’s doing everything she can to be visible, but at some point, she’s got to give people something real.

It’s not just on The View, either. When CBS’s Bill Whitaker asked her why they waited so long to address the border situation, she had nothing substantial to say. Whitaker pressed her, pointing out that the border crisis ballooned under Biden’s watch, yet she brushed it off, claiming the administration inherited the issue from Trump. Sure, every administration inherits something, but Biden and Harris have had years to handle it, and it’s only gotten worse.

For voters, this is another instance where Harris just doesn’t seem to “get it.” People want leaders who can admit when things aren’t going well and have the backbone to say what they’d do differently. Instead, Harris is out there doubling down on the same talking points that aren’t resonating. As Election Day gets closer, you have to wonder: are voters going to see through the spin and call it for what it is? Because if this is the message the administration wants to stick with, Harris may be in for a rude awakening when people head to the polls.
