On Tuesday, Pete Hegseth went before a Senate committee to let the Democrats play their political games and grill him over false claims. Now, it looks like Hegseth is on the fast track to becoming the next Secretary of Defense, and Democrats can’t seem to do a thing about it. Just 24 hours after a fiery confirmation hearing, Hegseth has reportedly secured majority support in the Senate and is poised for confirmation as early as next week. Despite relentless attacks from left-wing senators and the mainstream media, Hegseth has stood his ground—exactly what President-elect Donald Trump and his supporters want to see in a Defense Secretary.
Tuesday’s hearing was nothing short of a political brawl. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tried their best to derail Hegseth’s nomination with tired accusations of misconduct and hypocrisy. They screeched about his past comments on women in combat roles, attempting to paint him as anti-woman. Funny how they forget that Hegseth is married to a strong, accomplished woman and has nothing but respect for female service members. But the Democrats’ strategy backfired spectacularly. Hegseth’s calm, unapologetic defense of his positions only solidified his support among Republicans.
Even Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), a combat veteran who had previously questioned Hegseth’s stance on women in combat, is now backing him. That’s a big win. Ernst’s support signals that Hegseth is bringing even skeptical GOP senators into his corner, proving he can lead and unify.
Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) made it clear on Fox News that Hegseth’s confirmation is all but certain. Mullin praised Trump’s decision, saying, “Pete’s going to be confirmed, and I think you’re going to have strong support from all the Republicans, men and women alike.” Cotton, never one to mince words, slammed the Left’s obsession with turning the Pentagon into a social experiment, saying, “Our troops don’t deserve their pronouns on their ID tags. They don’t need privilege walks. They need hard, realistic training to prepare for war.” Exactly.
Cotton is spot on. Under the Biden administration, the military’s focus shifted to pushing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs instead of strengthening combat readiness. Recruitment is down, morale is low, and our adversaries are laughing. Hegseth plans to end that nonsense. He’s focused on restoring the Pentagon to what it should be: a war-fighting machine, not a woke think tank.
Democrats will likely throw a few more tantrums, but it won’t matter. Hegseth is exactly the kind of fighter the Department of Defense needs, and his confirmation will be a major win for Trump and America’s security.
