Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), who faces a potentially tough re-election campaign in 2026, just gave the Biden White House and radical left-wing Judge James E. Boasberg the keys to Washington, D.C.’s prosecutorial kingdom.
In a statement that stunned many conservatives, Tillis announced this morning that he will not support the nomination of Ed Martin as D.C. Attorney—a role critical in prosecuting crimes in the nation’s capital and, more importantly, standing up to the weaponization of justice. “Most of my concerns related to January 6th,” Tillis told reporters, offering no specifics and parroting the same vague talking points Democrats have used to disqualify anyone who dares challenge their J6 narrative.
Martin, currently serving as interim D.C. Attorney, has played a key role in restoring law and order in a city that’s been plagued by unchecked crime and soft-on-criminals policies. His confirmation by the Senate would solidify the gains made under Trump’s second term in dismantling the lawfare machine and holding actual violent criminals accountable. But with Tillis now signaling opposition—and rumors swirling that Senators Susan Collins, John Cornyn, and Bill Cassidy may follow suit—the clock is ticking.

Why is this so critical? Because if Martin isn’t confirmed by the May 20 deadline, Judge Boasberg—an Obama-appointed leftist who’s been nothing short of a disaster on the bench—gets to choose the next U.S. Attorney for D.C. Yes, a judge, not an elected or Senate-confirmed official. That means no oversight, no accountability, and no reason to believe the replacement won’t go straight back to prosecuting grandmas for praying outside the Capitol while ignoring repeat violent offenders.
This is exactly what Senate Democrats want—and Tillis just handed them a golden opportunity.
Boasberg’s track record is already riddled with politicized rulings, including those aimed at protecting the FBI from scrutiny and pushing back against Trump’s lawful efforts to secure the border and clean out the DOJ swamp. Giving him power to appoint D.C.’s top prosecutor is a disaster waiting to happen.
Republican voters across the country, and especially in North Carolina, should be calling Senator Tillis’s office and demanding he change course. The GOP must unite and confirm Ed Martin immediately.
If they don’t, it won’t just be a missed opportunity—it’ll be a full-blown surrender.
