Easter Hoax Falls Apart After Vance’s Surprise Meeting with Pope Francis

In yet another example of the left-wing media’s willingness to trade truth for viral outrage, a hoax claiming Pope Francis snubbed Vice President J.D. Vance on Easter Sunday was soundly debunked just hours after it exploded across social media.

Despite what you might have read from the Daily Beast or any number of far-left activist influencers on X, Vance did meet with Pope Francis on Easter at Casa Santa Marta. The Vatican itself confirmed the visit in an official press release, stating that the two shared Easter greetings and discussed a range of topics—including religious freedom, international conflict, and humanitarian concerns. So much for the melodrama.

The hoax—spread primarily by disinformation accounts and amplified by anti-Trump and anti-Vance activists—claimed the Pope had refused to meet the Vice President, opting instead to send a Vatican official to “lecture” him about “compassion” and “morality.” That false claim alone racked up millions of views, with some posts reaching over 3 million impressions before reality came crashing in.

In video footage shared by Vatican Media, a respectful and smiling Vance can be seen greeting the Holy Father warmly. “I know you have not been feeling great, but it’s good to see you in better health,” said Vance, a practicing Catholic. Pope Francis, still recovering from a serious bout of pneumonia, offered kind words in return and even gifted chocolate Easter eggs for each of Vance’s children, along with a Vatican tie and rosary beads.

“Today I met with the Holy Father Pope Francis. I am grateful for his invitation to meet, and I pray for his good health,” Vance later posted on X.

The meeting, though brief, was described as “cordial” by the Vatican, noting that both leaders affirmed their shared commitment to religious liberty and human dignity. Yes, even with differing views—especially on immigration—Vance and Francis had a respectful dialogue, something the modern left apparently sees as scandalous.

The fact that media outlets like MeidasTouch and The Daily Beast ran with an easily debunked fabrication says everything about their priorities. Truth? Optional. Narrative? Mandatory.

Meanwhile, J.D. Vance quietly attended Easter Mass at St. Paul Outside the Walls and visited the tomb of St. Paul with his family—a far cry from the hit pieces written by people who weren’t even in the room.

It’s no wonder the American people are tuning out the so-called “mainstream” press. They’re not reporting the news—they’re writing fan fiction.
