At the heart of the case is CNN’s reporting, which, according to Young, implied that Nemex Enterprises was illegally profiting from the evacuation of Americans and Afghans in dangerous conditions. Young argues that CNN falsely portrayed his company as a profiteer, exploiting desperate people trying to flee Afghanistan. In one broadcast, CNN’s Jake Tapper reported that companies like Young’s were demanding exorbitant fees, making safe passage out of the country unaffordable for most Afghans.
