When things get tough, voters get wise — and in California, it looks like the left’s endless mismanagement is finally catching up with them. A new poll released this week has sent political shockwaves through the Golden State, showing that 48% of likely California voters would consider casting a ballot for a Republican governor in 2026.

Let that sink in. This is California — the progressive petri dish that hasn’t voted red for president since 1988 and is infamous for one-party Democrat rule. But even in this blue bastion, reality is finally catching up to fantasy. Sky-high gas prices, exploding utility costs, out-of-control homelessness, rising crime, and never-ending gender ideology insanity are pushing voters to the brink. And the kicker? Even Hollywood can’t save the Democrats from themselves this time.
The poll, conducted March 6–9 by respected political analyst David Wolfson and sponsored by the Madison McQueen media firm, surveyed 700 likely voters. What emerged is nothing short of a political earthquake. Voters said they’re fed up with the state’s progressive elite and their failure to address the very real problems plaguing everyday Californians. And no, people aren’t buying Gavin Newsom’s smug hair gel and empty promises anymore.
As KABC reported, 72% of voters say homelessness is still a major problem after years of Democrat control. 71% say Democrats have failed to lower the cost of living. And 69% say the Dems haven’t done enough to bring down energy costs. Even more telling? 73% of voters support funding Prop 36, the anti-crime initiative that Democrats have refused to implement. Who’s shocked? Nobody.
And in a delicious little twist, the most popular Republican candidate in a separate poll? Mel Gibson, the guy who made The Passion of the Christ and absolutely shredded Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass over their pathetic wildfire mismanagement in a recent viral clip. Mel says he’s not running, but voters are clearly hungry for someone — anyone — with a backbone.

Trump’s influence looms large. The so-called “Trump Effect” is shifting the state redder by the year. In 2024 alone, Trump gained vote share in nearly every California county and Republicans flipped three legislative seats. Oh, and GOP voter registration? Surging by the hundreds of thousands. Democrats? Shrinking.
The stage is set for 2026 to be a political bloodbath for California Democrats. The supermajority might not just crack — it could crumble.
Better stock up on popcorn.
