Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is catching heat—big time—after stepping out of line with the America First movement just days after President Trump announced sweeping, historic tariffs aimed at resetting global trade. In what appears to be a classic case of “read the room, Ted,” the Texas senator took to his Verdict with Ted Cruz podcast to lecture conservatives on economic orthodoxy… and now MAGA voters are lighting him up.
Cruz, instead of celebrating Trump’s gutsy tariffs that are finally holding foreign nations accountable, decided to play globalist whisperer. “This past week, President Trump announced tariffs on virtually every country on earth,” Cruz said. “The highest tariff level since 1933. Every country is freaking out.” Sounds promising, right? But then came the Cruz pivot.
Cruz pitched the idea that tariffs should be “leverage,” not long-term policy—praising Trump only if he uses the tariffs to eventually lower global trade barriers. Then came the kicker: “There are angels and demons sitting on President Trump’s shoulders. Who does he listen to? I hope he listens to the angels.”
If President Trump uses this moment as leverage, that would be a massive victory for the American people.
But there are voices in the White House that want high tariffs forever. There are angels and demons sitting on President Trump’s shoulders. Who does he listen to? I hope he… pic.twitter.com/7IRWUaDUPN

Yeah, that line didn’t land.
Within hours, MAGA conservatives took to social media, unloading on Cruz for undermining Trump and casting doubt on the strategy that millions of Americans voted for. “Stop. You and the others are frauds. We voted for this,” one user posted. “We want to rebuild American manufacturing, and we will primary you if you stand in the way of that,” warned another.
Stop. You and the others are frauds. We voted for this. It's time to bring our manufacturing back home. You and the 6 others aligning with democrats is pathetic. Where was this concern when they tariffed America for years. And honestly, you represent Americans.

It’s not just about the rhetoric—it’s about loyalty to a vision that puts American workers first. For decades, politicians like Cruz have talked a good game about “Made in America,” but when the rubber meets the road, they fold to the Chamber of Commerce.
Meanwhile, Trump is doubling down. On Monday, he announced an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports if Beijing doesn’t drop its retaliatory duties. He also terminated all trade negotiations with China, sending a signal that the U.S. won’t be strong-armed anymore.
Markets overseas tanked, but Trump shrugged it off. “The tariffs are medicine,” he said, “bitter but necessary.” And guess what? Over 50 countries have already contacted Washington looking to strike new trade deals.
While Cruz worries about market volatility, Trump is rebuilding America’s industrial backbone. And MAGA voters know exactly which side they’re on.
