In a turn of events that has the political world buzzing, lifelong Democrat politician Rubén Díaz Sr. stunned attendees at a New York City rally by endorsing former President Donald Trump. The rally, held in the Bronx on Thursday, saw Díaz, who has served as a councilmember and state senator for several decades, throw his support behind Trump while delivering scathing remarks about U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Díaz made his dramatic endorsement in front of a massive crowd at Crotona Park, embracing Trump and declaring, “I want to join you in having the Bronx great again. Please accept this Democrat, this black Puerto Rican with kinky hair and broken English. Please accept my endorsement for you as president.” The crowd erupted in cheers as the two men shared a handshake and a hug.

But Díaz didn’t stop there. He took aim at AOC, ridiculing her predictions about the rally’s turnout. AOC, who had anticipated low attendance and even suggested divine intervention via a rainstorm to thwart the event, found herself at the center of Díaz’s biting humor. “As a minister, president of the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization, I want to tell AOC… who wanted to become a prophet,” he began, drawing laughter from the audience. “Madam prophet AOC, you have become a false prophet,” he continued, as the crowd roared in approval.

The rally itself was a spectacle of enthusiasm and energy, with Trump receiving a hero’s welcome. “Hello, New York City, and hello to all of the incredible, tough, strong, hardworking American patriots right here in the Bronx. Who would think? Who would think?” Trump exclaimed. He expressed his delight at being back in his hometown and vowed to turn New York City around quickly. “We’re gonna win New York. If we can win New York, we win the whole thing. Wouldn’t that be nice?” Trump asked, as chants of “we love Trump!” echoed through the park.

Trump, who continues to lead Biden in numerous national polls and swing states, was visibly energized by the turnout. The park was filled to capacity, with an overflow crowd stretching for several city blocks, many of whom had lined up hours in advance.
Trump’s optimistic rhetoric resonated with many attendees, some of whom were longtime supporters, while others were New Yorkers open to considering a Republican candidate amidst what they perceive as Democratic failures in the state. The rally marked a significant moment as Trump suggested a potential shift in New York’s political landscape, a state that hasn’t voted Republican since Ronald Reagan in 1984.
