Former President Donald Trump knows how to stir the pot, and his latest comments have liberals in a meltdown. Speaking at the NRA’s annual meeting, Trump joked about serving a third term, a quip that predictably sent his conservative audience into a frenzy and left liberals clutching their pearls.
During his speech, Trump drew a comparison to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who served four terms during World War II. “You know, FDR 16 years — almost 16 years — he was four terms. I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term? Or two-term? You tell me,” Trump said, basking in the cheers from the crowd.
Predictably, the Biden campaign wasted no time jumping on the remarks, accusing Trump of wanting to “violate the Constitution.” This is rich coming from the party that seems to interpret the Constitution as a living document only when it suits them. Let’s not forget that the 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, limits presidents to two terms.

In case anyone’s memory is as selective as mainstream media’s, Trump told Time Magazine in April that he does not support abolishing this constitutional limitation. “I wouldn’t be in favor of it at all. I intend to serve four years and do a great job. And I want to bring our country back. I want to put it back on the right track. Our country is going down. We’re a failing nation right now. We’re a nation in turmoil,” he stated. But hey, why let facts get in the way of a good liberal outrage?
Trump’s comments came at a strategic time, just as he gears up for the first debate against Joe Biden next month. Trump criticized Biden’s recent State of the Union address, suggesting, “He did that State of the Union the other day – he was high as a kite.” The suggestion that Biden should undergo drug testing before debates had the crowd in stitches.
The White House didn’t let this slide. Andrew Bates, a spokesman for the Biden administration, responded with a rather defensive statement, claiming Republicans are intimidated by Biden’s performance. He listed Biden’s supposed successes, from infrastructure rebuilding to reducing violent crime, and suggested that Republicans mistake confidence for drug use.
Oh, please. Approximately four in five voters believe Biden is too old to run for another term, so perhaps the White House should focus less on Trump’s jokes and more on the fact that their candidate often struggles to complete coherent sentences.
