Incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is celebrating the Democrats’ projected midterm sweep by reviving one of the most mocked photos of his career. He also altered it to take a swipe at Republicans. Nothing says post-election statesmanship quite like turning a grill, a few hot dogs and some Photoshop into a victory lap, but Washington has never been famous for underselling drama.
The latest projections show Democrats taking at least 255 House seats, a gain of more than 40, along with as many as 56 Senate seats. Mississippi is even described as likely to fall. That projected result would mark the Republican Party’s worst midterm defeat since the post-Watergate election of 1974. The figures are projections, but Schumer treated them like a finished scoreboard.

This morning, Schumer resurrected a two-year-old image on X. The original showed him pretending to grill a cheeseburger and hot dogs. It was mocked so intensely that he deleted it. Rather than leave the culinary embarrassment in the digital graveyard, Schumer brought it back with a new partisan menu. The internet may forget many things, but apparently not a politician struggling with a barbecue prop.
The updated image shows headshots of President Trump, Vance and various failed GOP Senate candidates photoshopped onto burgers and hot dogs while Schumer appears to grill them. The caption was as smug as the picture: “54 seats and counting,” Schumer wrote. “And I learned how to grill…These burgers and dogs are fully cooked.”

That is a fairly confident joke from a man whose first version ended with a deletion. Schumer’s message was not an argument about policy or governing. It was a taunt aimed at Republicans, served with a side of election-night gloating. The edited food fight became an invitation for critics to turn the grill back toward Schumer.

Joey Mannarino wrote, “You are not even in control of your caucus.” Another reply asked whether Schumer had received permission from his bosses before posting. In other words, the response was less “pass the ketchup” and more “who is actually running the kitchen?”

MagPul Magpie put it more pointedly: “It’s actually funny that you still appear to believe you’re in control of anything anymore. Did you get permission to post this from your bosses?”

One commenter went even further, using profanity to accuse Schumer of not knowing how to cook a hot dog while claiming he would “cook the American people.” That language was crude, but it shows how quickly a victory post became another fight over the direction of the Democratic Party.
Commie bitch. Doesn’t know how to cook a hot dog but will cook the American people. Screw you and your Marxism

Another user argued that Schumer’s post had exposed a deeper problem, writing, “I know you or one of your underpaid interns thought this was clever, but you have no idea what you’ve done bringing the DSA into your party. They hate you more than us … and they’re in your kitchen.”

Schumer may enjoy the numbers tonight, but the reaction shows the risk of celebrating with a meme before the political dust settles. The Democrats’ projected gains gave him a reason to gloat, yet the revived photo also gave Republicans and critics a fresh target. A grill can cook burgers, but it cannot conceal a bad punchline, and this one came back with the heat turned in Schumer’s direction.
