The cracks in the Democratic Party just keep getting bigger.
This week, podcast host Mark Halperin shared an email from a lifelong Democrat who finally hit her breaking point—after watching the disgraceful behavior of Democratic lawmakers during President Trump’s joint address to Congress. And she’s not alone.
In her message, the woman, who didn’t vote for Trump in the past, described how she sat with her husband, watching as Democrats refused to clap for a young boy with cancer and remained stone-faced while the family of Laken Riley was honored.
That moment, she wrote, was it.
“I’m switching parties. It’s been coming for a while, but that was the moment for me,” she said.
Plenty of Democrats are steadfast in their defense of the conduct of their party’s members of Congress in the chamber last night during Donald Trump’s speech, mostly justifying what was done in protest by pointing to the president’s own conduct and policies.

A Moment of Truth
She wasn’t just disgusted by what she saw in Congress—the media’s response sent her over the edge.
She singled out MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace, who took a cheap, vile shot at 13-year-old cancer survivor DJ Daniel, after Trump honored him as an honorary Secret Service agent.

That was too much.
“When I heard Nicole Wallace’s heinous remark, I said to my husband, ‘who are these people?!’”
She went on to describe how she couldn’t sleep that night, struggling to process what she had witnessed.
“I have not been able to come to terms with what I witnessed from Democrats last night. It was surreal. It was like an episode of Scooby-Doo where they pull off the masks and show you who the villains are.”
And then, she admitted the unthinkable: she supports some of what Trump is actually doing.
Why This Matters
This email isn’t just one person’s realization—it represents why Trump won the popular vote for the first time and why his approval rating continues to climb.
Halperin addressed the larger issue:
“The Democratic Party on vivid display last night … has done things on certain issues where they think, because they agree with each other, that they have the right position and the majority position, and they don’t.”
And the numbers back him up.
- 76% of Americans approved of Trump’s speech (CBS/YouGov poll).
- 74% said he looked presidential.
- 77% supported his immigration and border policies.

The Democrats spent years alienating voters, and now, the results are right in front of them. They’re losing the middle class, parents, and lifelong moderates—and they have no one to blame but themselves.
