Outrageous! Republican Majority in Texas House Surrenders Power to Democrats

What in the world is happening to Texas? The Lone Star State—once the stronghold of conservatism, where Republican dominance was unquestioned—is now being handed over to Democrats on a silver platter, thanks to the latest betrayal by so-called Republican “leadership.” Newly elected Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) just pulled a move that should make every conservative furious: he appointed a Democrat, Joe Moody of El Paso, as Speaker Pro Tempore and handed over half of the chamber’s new subcommittees to Democrats.

Let’s be clear: Republicans control the Texas House. Texas went to President Trump in 2024 by 14 points—that’s not a swing state margin, that’s a deep-red landslide. Yet somehow, we have a Republican Speaker bending over backward to “power share” with Democrats. Why? Because 36 weak-kneed Republicans joined forces with 49 Democrats to ensure Burrows kept his position. And now, Burrows is paying them back by giving Democrats key legislative power they did not earn.

The real conservative in the Speaker race was David Cook, who actually promised to do what Republican voters wanted—keep Democrats from running the show. But of course, the RINOs couldn’t allow that, so they sabotaged Cook’s challenge, leaving him with just 55 votes in the final round. Once again, establishment Republicans proved they’d rather hold hands with Democrats than listen to their own voters.

And let’s talk about these committee assignments. Six out of twelve new subcommittees—including ones on defense and veterans affairs, family law, telecommunications, transportation, and property tax appraisals—are now in Democrat hands. That’s half of them! Why on earth would any Republican Speaker voluntarily surrender control over issues like veterans’ affairs and property taxes to the party that wants to bankrupt Texas and open the floodgates at the border?

Burrows gave the usual political babble about how these appointments were about “balancing many factors” and “leveraging expertise.” No, it’s about one thing: making sure Democrats maintain their grip on Texas politics, even when voters overwhelmingly rejected them at the ballot box. And Democrats aren’t even hiding their excitement—Rep. Gene Wu, the leader of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, flat-out admitted that Burrows’ move allows Democrats to “effectively advocate” for their agenda.

Let’s not forget, this is the same Republican-controlled House that impeached Ken Paxton on completely bogus charges. In May 2023, the Bush-Rove machine teamed up with Democrats to try to take out one of the strongest conservative fighters in Texas. They failed, of course—Paxton was acquitted in the Senate—but the fact that they tried should tell you everything about the kind of “Republicans” running the Texas House.

This isn’t bipartisanship. This is sabotage. Texas voters didn’t send Republicans to Austin to “work together” with the radical left—they sent them to fight and win. And if these RINOs won’t do it, then maybe it’s time to replace them with real conservatives who will.
