In a significant reversal, the Biden Administration has “agreed” to halt the sale of border wall materials just weeks before President-elect Trump’s return to the White House. The announcement came after legal pressure from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who sought to block the outgoing administration’s efforts to sabotage border wall construction. The move ensures that materials designated for wall construction will remain intact for Trump to utilize once he assumes office.
The ruling follows reports that border wall components, purchased during Trump’s first term, were being auctioned off for “pennies on the dollar” on platforms like GovPlanet.com. The Biden Administration’s actions, widely seen as an attempt to undermine Trump’s immigration agenda, drew sharp criticism and legal challenges. Paxton, a staunch defender of border security, declared victory after the administration agreed to the court order.
“The Biden Administration confirmed to the court today that it will agree to an order preventing the outgoing administration from disposing of any further border wall materials over the next 30 days—allowing President Trump to use those materials as he sees fit,” Paxton’s office said in a statement. The court also ruled that Texas is entitled to documentation proving compliance with a prior injunction requiring federal funds earmarked for the border wall to be spent as intended. Any violations could result in contempt charges.
This is just the latest chapter in the saga of Trump’s border wall, a centerpiece of his 2016 campaign. By January 2021, his administration had completed 450 miles of wall before Biden abruptly halted construction upon taking office. Biden’s Department of Defense later handed over unused materials to the Army Corps of Engineers, which then auctioned them off.
Paxton, who has long battled the Biden Administration over immigration, emphasized the importance of this victory. “We have successfully blocked the Biden Administration from disposing of any further border wall materials before President Trump takes office,” he said. “This follows our major victory forcing Biden to build the wall, and we will hold his Administration accountable for illegally subverting our Nation’s border security.”
Trump has vowed to make border wall construction a top priority in his second term, aiming to restore and expand the project. This ruling ensures that the necessary materials remain available, setting the stage for an immediate restart. The move underscores the stark contrast in immigration policies between Biden and Trump, highlighting how critical border security will remain in the coming years.
